Carousell - The joy of selling - Item 3

We got a car seat when one of our friends moved to the US. They said its supposed to have another part which was missing or misplaced, my memory fails which one. Given it was useless to be used for the purpose for which it was made and a little useful to feed the baby and make him go to sleep. We used it for a year and then kept it away safe for another 3 years.

The day came when I was cleaning the store room. Cleaning days are the days I realize maybe I have things that can make its way to a new home. So I put it up in Carousell for 20 or 30 dollar. In a few hours guilt kicked in...how can I sell something that is not complete for that much money plus we got it for free. My brain split into two personalities and began the courtroom debate. The good half won this time and I decided that in 2 days I will take it down. And if in case someone comes within these two days, they can have it for free.

Within a few hours a buyer came. I was shocked, this is one of the times when coincidence and the forces of universe compete in unison to break you down. I messaged them saying the set was incomplete and they can have it for free. Again they were ok with the deal ...

They came down my block to pick it up and this is where it gets real interesting. She looked like a model, her husband looked rich and they were driving a very big car. My mind is wandering at high speed. "Is this car seat an artifact or relic" "Are they collectors or do they want to reverse engineer and find out how to make one" "Maybe they are doing a drama or production and need something as a prop" I wanted to dissolve into the universe with the car seat, but the lady was super nice and kind. She forced a 10 dollar saying, I cannot accept things for free, kindly take this.

They left me with the story and drove into darkness.

Clarity in thoughts - 1

What is the worst - trying to do a thing or overcoming your mental barrier ? I would say its the later.
It took me time, lot of effort and convincing till I could finally reach that point where I decided that maybe, I do measure up and can do it.

Someone has rightly coined, "dreams of an Indian women comes with an expiry date" When guys need to do something, all they have to do is get up and do it. Is it the same for a women? I don't think so...she thinks about children, their classes, household chores and multiple things just spring up from every possible direction.

Society blames her for everything should anything go wrong and disrupts the flow. So what is the resolution? I will tell you, don't give a cent or dime about what anybody thinks. Rise up and do the things you like to do. Sometimes you fail and sometimes you win. Life at any given point is a sum of all the decisions you took, but the truth is, life is a journey and not a balance sheet. The faster you realize it, the better your happiness index will be.

Be an icon to your daughter and be graciously iron willed. Let her grow up believing, "I too can dream"

Daffodils

No my name does not mean Daffodils nor do I have a bunch of daffodils growing in my backyard, in fact I have never seen that flower to be frank. My only connection is that once upon a time I had to mug up the poem for a secondary exam . But whenever I hear that word I am reminded of the simple things in life . And it is always the simple things that matter most in life .

…. Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in….
Teacher is very exited ..she is dancing , tossing her head , moving around …afternoon class , strong winds most of us are either sleeping or almost nearing that point .Suddenly teacher found her prey ..someone was caught red handed sleeping “how many daffodils did the poet see ?” … the guy was dazed did not even know what was going on ..he surely had that look of “you woke me up to ask the count of some silly flower?”..now in comes the most suicidal yet integral elements of life ..friends!!! Someone in the front row mimed without the teachers notice “ten thousand”…he smiled looked at the teacher boldly ..and said “ten “ …”the poet saw 10 daffodils”.. the whole class burst out laughing
Now the teacher is not someone who would laugh along when students laugh at one of classic poems of all times. “Oh …ok so he saw only 10 eh?..maybe you can count the remaining outside the class…and all who wants to laugh …may go out and help him count ..” Oops ..there is pin drop silence ..

The end paragraph is very important , every line is important .. “ u ..u in the back row tell me why the poets heart fills with pleasure “ whoever was in the back row started frantically searching for the lines …teacher is impatient “last two lines ..” now my friend who just woke up said “because the poem ended” .. teacher heard that ..she smiled feebly and told …”at your age ..you will never understand the beauty of a poem..” and that was the last time she asked questions about daffodils or any other flower.

Its a simple memory ...Its a Daffodil

Carousell - The joy of selling - Item 2

Selling brought me happiness. I was not sure 🤔 was it the thought that things that was supposed to depreciate in value to nothing suddenly became a commodity with value or was it the fun in dealing with people. Somehow a hormone was released that made me happy.

The second item I placed was Science question papers for primary 3 kids. I had 2 sets and wanted to let go of one. I brought one for myself and got another as free when I purchased Math and English set. Asia is a market place for education. Anything that is, was or has the tab of education will sell as hot cake here. I was not apprehensive of this item, but the fact that the final term has started and almost or all parents must be already having one made me wonder if I will ever get a buyer.

Patience is the key to Carousell sales. It can happen any day, some after 2 years even. Just like 1-2-3 my buyer came. I was right, education is always a top priority. Looks like someone did put it for last minute or this must be the second round of revision. And that is how my 20 dollar found its 18 dollar friend.

Carousell - The joy of selling - Item 1

I was introduced to Carousell in the most effective and best of ways since evolution, “everyone had it”. Since it passed Tier 1 and Tier 2 of my intellectual screening, I started using my husbands account. He was quite inactive anyways, and I am pretty convinced the only way to save humanity is by the reduce, reuse and recycle mindset. Thus began a joyful journey of learning.

I was quite unsure which item to start with. After much thought I placed my daughter’s Frozen dress and accessories as my project kick off item. She had worn it hardly once, item was in extremely good condition (soo good in fact it looked brand new) and to top it all, she outgrew it. I forgot how much I brought it for but I placed it for 35 dollars. In my dreams I did not think anyone wanted it. But a buyer came and asked if I was willing to let go at 20. I was, as soon as I got over my surprise.

I met my first customer near the train station next to my house. She was old, must be in her late sixties (I was surprised to know she used this site) and we completed our deal. She looked at the item and said, “its for my granddaughter. She has asked for this as her birthday gift, she will be very excited and happy” At that moment, I did not know what to do should I return the money or should I leave her and walk away. I did not hurt her ego, and walk away is what I did.

Happy birthday girl, hope you liked your dress. I wanted to see how many stories and insights I will make out of selling the items we no longer used. I opened a box and placed my first 20 inside. Hopefully you will get more companions soon.
